Specialising in residential infrastructure projects, Godfrey SA Construction sets itself apart by self-performing most work using our talented in-house team and modern fleet of equipment. The result for clients is exceptional control of quality, cost and schedule.
Site Clearance and Grubbing
Once the plans have been approved, the construction team will need to clear the site of vegetation, debris, or previous structures.

The process of site clearance is generally undertaken as part of enabling works, carried out to prepare a site for construction. It involves the clearing the site to allow other remedial, treatment or demolition works to take place before the actual construction works can begin.

It involves clearing a site of any machinery or equipment, unwanted surplus materials, rubbish, and so on. Site clearance may also involve clearing away vegetation and surface soil, and levelling and preparing the ground for the planned construction works. Care is taken to ensure that there are correct approvals in place, particularly for trees which may be protected.

A site waste management plan (SWMP) is prepared before site clearance begins. This outlines how materials will be managed efficiently and disposed of legally, explaining how the re-use and recycling of materials will be maximised. All types of waste present on the site must be removed safely and efficiently. If there is any contaminated waste or potentially hazardous substances, professional disposal experts are consulted to safely handle them.

Site clearance might be carried out as part of the main construction contract, or it may be carried out in advance of the main contract, and might be part of a wider contract including other enabling works or facilitating works, such as; demolition works, soil stabilisation works, services diversion, constructing access roads, and so on.
Site Analysis
What Is Sitework?
Before we can ever start erecting a building, we will first analyse and prepare the site -specifically the foundation - for construction.

Sitework is a term that encompasses all pre-construction activities, which are essential to the overall success of any project, seeing as they lay the groundwork for the rest of the build. The more stable the ground, the more likely the building will remain standing without experiencing long-term structural issues.

Typically, we work with engineers to carefully plan and then execute the sitework phase. Our goal? To ensure that the foundation is as solid and stable as possible, thus providing a secure base to build upon.
But what does this entail?
Site Analysis and Planning
Before we can begin excavation, experts will analyse the site and gauge the specific elements that might impact the foundation’s safety and stability. To prepare for excavation, we will evaluate various factors including:

Slope and topography of the site

Soil conditions and composition

Environmental or legal issues.

After this analysis has been completed, the structural designer can begin the foundation layout drawing for excavation, which will then be reviewed and approved by the architect. This may cover the type of foundation; the length, depth, width, and border of excavation; and the methods and equipment that will be used to remove the soil.
Foundation
Building on Firm Foundations with Godfrey SA Construction
Choosing the foundation that your house is built on, may have major ramifications for the structural integrity of your home. A slab foundation is normally placed after the area is cleared of earthworks (e.g. plants, weeds, shrubs) and the plumbing pre-lay is completed. Once these steps are completed we can then pour your footings and floor slab. The slab foundation is made up of concrete and typically 150mm thick in the centre. The footings and slab involve using a concrete pump to direct the concrete into position. This process ensures the waterproof membrane and reinforcement isn’t damaged.

Preparing a building’s foundations is every bit as important as the structural build itself. If you fail to properly plan and then lay firm foundations, the structure likely won’t stand for long. If you want your investment to last, that starts at the ground level with sitework. By diligently planning and executing the excavation process, you can ensure that your structure is built on solid ground.
Excavation
The first two steps above help prepare the site for excavation. Although the specific workflows will vary depending on the project, common elements of excavation include:

Ground tracing – Workers need to know exactly where they will be performing excavation. To that end, the team will “set out” pegs and strings to outline the excavation plot, mark the center lines, and denote the level of depth.

Soil excavation – Typically, the excavation process itself is accomplished with the assistance of heavy equipment. This machinery is specially designed to quickly and efficiently remove the earth from the designated area. In most cases, the excess soil is either moved to another onsite location where it can be re-used at a later point or taken off-site for disposal. Depending on the depth and quality of the soil, the excavation trench may need to be structurally reinforced.

Backfilling and compaction – Once excavation is finished, the team will then backfill the site with soil, then compact that earth to provide a solid foundation that’s less likely to settle, sink, or shift.

Pouring the foundation – At this stage, the site should be ready for the foundation stage. Here, the team will either pour concrete or lay foundation blocks to form solid ground. Also, depending on the site factors, they may install other stabilizing elements like footings or pilings.

Foundation inspection – After 3 to 14 days, the concrete foundation will be fully cured. At that point, experts will conduct a final inspection to ensure that the work was carried out properly, the foundations are, indeed, stable, and the site is ready for the next phases of construction.
Mat or Raft Foundation
A raft foundation is a reinforced concrete slab under the whole of a building or extension, 'floating' on the ground as a raft floats on water. This type of foundation spreads the load of the building over a larger area than other foundations, lowering the pressure on the ground.

A raft foundation is often used when the soil is weak, as it distributes the weight of the building over the entire area of the building, and not over smaller zones (like individual footings) or at individual points (like pile foundations). This reduces the stress on the soil.

A raft foundation is also very good for basements. Foundations are created by excavating soil in order to find strong, compact, undisturbed natural soil that is at least a few feet below ground level. This soil is much stronger than the loose soil at the surface. If we construct a raft foundation at say 10 feet below ground, and build concrete walls around the periphery, this makes an excellent basement. Therefore, an engineer designing a building with a basement will tend to choose a raft foundation over other types of foundations.
Trench Fill Foundation
Trench fill foundations are routinely used in the construction of low-rise buildings such as houses, garages and small commercial buildings. This type of foundation is constructed by digging a trench around the footprint of the building, which is then filled with concrete.

Trench fill foundations are a popular choice for many types of construction project, because they are quick and easy to construct, require less excavation than other types of foundations, and are suitable for a range of soil types. They are also effective at distributing the weight of the building evenly across the ground, which helps to prevent subsidence or other types of movement.

While trench foundations often do not require reinforcement, we recommend adding reinforcement and rebar mesh , particularly if the depth or proximity of trees requires it.
Installing a Trench Fill Foundation
In a trench fill foundation, a trench is usually dug to a specified depth that is at or just below ground level, and the bottom of the trench is typically lined with a layer of reinforcement steel/hardcore base to provide a stable base for the concrete. Concrete is poured into the trench, over the steel reinforcement/hardcore base, to create a foundation that is both level and stable.

Of course, as with all parts of the construction process, trench fill foundations require careful design and execution to ensure that they are strong enough to support the weight of the building and the loads it will be subjected to over time.
Strip Footing
Strip Foundation or Strip Footing
A strip footing is that in which a continuous strip of concrete is placed below the load-bearing walls. It spreads the weight of the load-bearing wall evenly across the total area of the soil. The footing can be made in either plain concrete or reinforced concrete.

Strip foundation construction involves excavating a trench to the required depth, reinforcing, then pouring concrete into the trench to form a solid base for the strip foundation. The width of the trench will vary depending on the size and type of building being constructed. Once the concrete has cured, bricks or blocks are laid on top of it to form the walls of the strip foundation.

Roof Replacement
Roof replacement is the complete removal of your current roof and replacing it with a fresh one. This process may include upgrades to the supporting structures of your home. If you’re wondering how much roof replacement cost, this guide will help you get a clearer idea of what it entails.

When the roof needs to have work done, the best and most affordable method is to get the roofing contractor over and they will go through with you all of the different methods they can apply to your specific situation.
Roof replacement offers a complete roofing solution for all your roofing needs and services, no matter how big or small.

Most roofs have a lifespan between 50 – 80 years. Over time, you will notice that your roof needs repairs like shingles breaking or tiles cracking as they tend to wear out. Eventually, the wear and tear on your roof will be so significant that restoring it to its former state will be necessary.

A roofing replacement will increase the value of your home.
Factors that determine roof replacement cost
Once you have an idea of what it would take to replace your roof, you will be able to determine how much you should expect to pay. That said, you need to be aware of the roof replacement cost factors as listed below:
• The complexity of the roof depends on a number of factors including the size of the home and the number of roof planes.

• The cost can vary based on the type of tiles you decide to replace it with. The choice would depend on the style that matches your home and interior. This allows you to increase the value of your property while preserving the historic value of the tiles.

• The size of the tiles also can also have an impact on the cost. The smaller tiles take longer to install and will increase labour hours.

• Whether the support structure needs renovating due to rot or it’s a complete tear-down.

• The height of the house and the consequent amount of scaffolding required to reach the roof determine the cost.

• How complex the roofing design is.

• Location of your property – whether it’s in Johannesburg or any other locations within Gauteng.

Paving
Dependable, Reliable, Professional: Just a few of the ways our customers describe us.

If it’s time for a new driveway, concrete walkway or decorative stone patio, Godfrey SA Construction Paving should be your first choice for reliable, professional, quality work, every time.

Our paving department specialises in a multitude of paving services anywhere in Gauteng and beyond. If you have a broken driveway, drainage problems, or an uneven surface – whether it’s a residential front walkway missing interlocking stones or an office parking lot with cracked concrete – we have the expert staff and machinery torepair or replace it.
Pavers or paving stones are made of brick, concrete, or natural stone used to create a surface for roads, driveways, walkways, patios, and courtyards. Clay brick pavers are a manufactured product made of clay cast in forms, then heat cured, usually in the shape of a rectangle. Concrete pavers are cast bricks made of Portland cement and aggregate. Cobblestones are natural, quarried stones cut into paver shapes.
Stone Pavers
Stone is among the most nuanced and luxurious of paving materials. It’s also durable and versatile, offering an enormous range of colors, shapes, and sizes. From irregularly shaped flagstones for country-garden paths to precision-cut geometric blocks for a formal patio, there is a stone for every garden situation. All of this, however, comes at a price. Stone can be expensive to purchase and install. Paving-stone availability and prices vary from region to region, depending on the quantity purchased and your distance from the source.

There are a few points to keep in mind when purchasing stone for paving. A thickness of at least 2 inches is best for supporting frequent foot traffic and enduring the vagaries of settling or weather. Avoid rounded cobblestones, and flagstones with a polished or honed finish, which can be hard on the ankles and slick when wet. Instead, choose stones that are flat and have a natural-cleft surface and offer some grip or texture.

Before making a costly commitment to any material, check its color when wet. That pretty honey-tan granite you like so much could turn a lurid golden orange in the rain. Likewise, a subtle pattern in your sandstone may become objectionably bold when accentuated by moisture.
Sandtone
Sandstone is an excellent all-around choice

One of the most popular stones for garden paving is sandstone. It is tough enough for any paving application but is easier to cut and work than granite, which helps account for its lower cost. Sandstone is available in many shapes and colors and is easy to come by in large quantities. Blue-gray and lilac-gray are common sandstone colors, but light gray, tan, soft golden cream, and orange-brown can be found as well. Expect some color variation in every lot of sandstone, along with occasional bands or blotches of contrasting color in each piece.
Clay brick is arguably one of the most elegant paving surfaces and consistently adds value to your home. Clay brick has been a standard building material for thousands of years, used for building walls and as paving surfaces for driveways, pathways, and courtyards, lending a timeless look to your landscape.
Concreate Paving
While there are many materials that you can use to enhance the appearance of your driveway, patio, or walkways, few provide the level of style and sophistication afforded by concrete  – at a fraction of the cost of natural stone pavers.

As a manufactured product, there are no limits to the look and style you can achieve using concrete paving services. Anything is possible with concrete paving whether you’re after an old-world charm or a more contemporary look. Concrete is also a suitable alternative for homeowners looking to go green with their building materials. It is a simple mixture of cement, sand, and gravel and contains no petroleum-based products or other environmentally harmful chemicals.  What’s more, concrete paving isn’t only eco-friendly and great-looking, but they are also made to last.

Concrete is a low-maintenance, highly durable product whose lifespan far surpasses other paving materials like asphalt. Whether you are considering a concrete paving patio or using concrete paving for your driveway, you can rest easy in knowing your investment will continue to look beautiful for decades to come.

Godfrey SA Construction Paving has proudly served Gauteng area since we started operating. Our time in the industry has provided us with the opportunity to grow our services; one of the many usages we have perfected is Concrete paving services, and we have used concrete and granite stones in various creative ways.

When choosing Godfrey SA Construction Paving for your concrete needs, you will be guaranteed the uppermost quality craftsmanship. Concrete paving can be manipulated for usage in many markets, including Residential, Commercial, and Industrial.
